Hey, szy here!
Today, I want to tune in with the writing about some of the process behind my recent attempts at making an app/website. The main idea for the app is to create a space to be reflective.
How did it come about?
When I started applying for jobs I also started journaling. At the beginning, It was meant to help me practice narrating my daily experiences with more insight and attention to details to be able to narrate whatever I will have to do in the job interviews with more ease and atmosphere.
For that I’ve got myself some paper notebooks and every day before going to sleep I sit to write down whatever I want to, whatever I feel. It’s a lot about what I ate, how worse the weather is getting every day and how that makes the cycling to the studio less and less pleasant. Anyhow, I really enjoy this ritual—it feels easy and necessary.
How I would use the app
In the morning I give myself a moment to remember or read again what I was journaling about yesterday night and write a very short overview of it, things I want to remember. If I want to remember something about that entry specifically I would just highlight it with one word repeated three times—“Gnocchi gnocchi gnocchi”. Another thing I might note down is what the practice of journaling is doing to me, what is it resurfacing, if there are any patterns I can see being shaped by sitting down to writing every day.
Example one-liners
index of your writing that appears in different places, especially the physical ones
An app for the rhythm of thoughts
A page turned into a word
I’m thinking of projects like “yellow squares” by Elijah or Gather app by Spencer Chang. They both deal with a way of distilling your thinking and archives into something accessible, easy to go back, trace it to a specific moment in time and make space for discussing it and sharing with others.
